Our server's long retention times means there are a lot of headers to download the first time a user accesses a newsgroup. The 50MB/day free account users are having a hard time downloading the initial headers without greatly exceeding their limit. To solve this we have setup the billing system to give all new free accounts 1GB of download credits for at least one full day. Our days start and end at midnight EST so signing up shortly after midnight EST will give you two days to use the 1GB of credits.
